Residents,
With freezing temperatures and possible snow, it is imperative that you take precautions to protect your home from winter damage. Frozen pipes or unexpected leaks can lead to serious water damage in your home. Here’s how to be prepared:
Monitor Your Water Usage in EyeOnWater:
If you see a "Meter Pipe Empty" alert, this most likely means frozen pipes on your property.
If EyeOnWater indicates a leak, this means there's a leak on your side, not the District's.
If you notice a problem:
Shut-Off the main valve coming into your home:
Location will vary based on your builder and plan
In many homes, this is in the garage
Test It: Turn on a faucet inside your house. If the water stops, you've successfully shut off the valve.
Only if the main valve is inaccessible or the leak is outside the home, shut off the valve at the meter
Your water meter is usually located near the street or sidewalk, in a concrete or plastic box with a lid.
Inside the box, you'll see your water meter and a shut-off valve. Turn the valve until it is perpendicular to the pipe.
Test It: Turn on a faucet inside your house. If the water stops, you've successfully shut off the valve.
Note: Valves can be hard to turn, especially in cold weather. You may need to use some force or a rubber grip, but be careful not to break the valve.
TNG will be onsite at the water plant to ensure that pressure is maintained and to monitor the health of the facilities. However, due to the expected dangerous conditions, service technicians may not be able to respond to service requests in a timely manner. Customer service will still be available.
Stay warm, Willow Creek Farms!
If turning off the water to the house, must the gas water heater be turned off as well as the gas to it?
